The Chiffchaff derives its name from its rather monotonous, but unmistakable song. In late March this tiny bird is the first summer song bird to arrive back. Most spend the winter around the mediterranean, a few brave the winter here in England in the south-west. The Chiffchaff usually sings from the top of tall trees as was the case when I heard it for the first time this year.
